CLAY COSMOS // CAMP DIFFERENT
Your Clay Cosmos Glamping Questions, Answered.
We know planning your next adventure takes a little preparation, so here are some of our most frequently asked questions to set you up for success on your visit with us!
Where exactly is Clay Cosmos?
We're a little glamping resort in Lumpkin, Georgia, right at the gateway to Providence Canyon State Park — Georgia's Little Grand Canyon. If you've never heard of Lumpkin, that's kind of the point. We're located at 8751 Canyon Road, Lumpkin, GA 31815. Head south past Columbus and keep going until the world slows down.
How far away is Clay Cosmos from Atlanta?
About 2.5 hours southwest of Atlanta, depending on traffic. It's a real road trip in the best kind of way — so cue up your playlist and hit the open road. It's the ideal weekend trip from Atlanta — far enough to fully disconnect, close enough to be back by Sunday night. We recommend stopping at Richland Rum or Omaha Brewing on your way in for a little something to celebrate your arrival.
How far is the resort from Providence Canyon State Park?
We are literally at the gateway — the park entrance is less than a mile away, right across the street. You can walk to the trailhead before your cup of coffee gets cold. That's by design.
What's the Check-in/Check-out time?
Check-in begins at 4:00PM and check-out is at 10:00AM. Early check-ins and late check-outs may be available depending on availability — just ask us in advance and we'll do our best.
What are your office/front desk hours?
Our Welcome Wagon is staffed during the morning from 9:00-11:00AM, and in the afternoons from 3:00-6:00. Outside those hours, you can reach us at camp@claycosmos.com or 229-231-5730. We check messages regularly.
Accommodations
Everything you need to know about your Conestoga Wagon or Canvas Cabin.
What type of units do you have?
We currently have two kinds of units: six Canvas Cabins and six Conestoga Wagons
(but stay tuned, new ones are in the works!). The Canvas Cabins are canvas-walled structures with real beds, a sizeable refrigerator/freezer, and a basic kitchen setup with dishes + cups, a microwave and Nespresso machine. The Conestoga Wagons are exactly what they sound like — covered wagons with actual mattresses, cozy bedding, and just enough rustic character to make you feel like a pioneer who made very good decisions. All units are furnished and guest-ready. Round 'em up and move 'em out!
What's included in the units?
Every unit includes a real bed with quality linens, bath towels, outdoor seating, and access to the canyon views and dark skies that make this place worth the drive. Wagons include their own private firepits, with grill grates and cast iron griddles available at the Welcome Wagon as needed. Tented cabins include a kitchenette and indoor seating area. Full amenity details — and exactly what you'll want to pack — are listed on each unit's page.
Is there electricity in the units?
Yes — our units have electrical access, including both installed light fixtures and available outlets. You won't be roughing it in the dark (unless you want to be, for stargazing purposes — in which case, we encourage it).
Is there running water and plumbing?
Yes. We have private bathrooms in every unit. No pit toilets. No roughing it. This is glamping, not survival training.
Is there Wi-fi?
We have WiFi available on the property near the Welcome Wagon, however it's not accessible in the units. That said, this part of Southwest Georgia is beautifully, blissfully quiet. We recommend trying a night offline — it's one of the better things you'll do here.
How many guests can each unit accomodate?
Our Canvas Cabins accommodate up to 8 guests in our largest unit. Conestoga Wagons accommodate up to 4. If you're traveling as a larger group, contact us — we have multiple units and can often accommodate groups across adjacent sites.

What to Expect
at Your Canvas Cabin or Conestoga Wagon
Is Clay Cosmos a pet-friendly glamping resort?
Yes! Clay Cosmos is pet-friendly. We do require an additional pet fee upon booking with a maximum of 2 pets per unit, and ask that you keep pets on leash around the common areas and be mindful of your neighbors. A well-behaved dog watching a fire at dusk in canyon country is one of life's sweeter things, and we think your pup might just want to experience it too.
Note: Aggressive breeds are not allowed, and will not be permitted.
Is Clay Cosmos kid-friendly?
Absolutely. The canyon, the wagons, the stars, the fire pits, the treehouse (coming July 2026) — kids tend to be completely captivated by this place. We'd call it genuinely unplug-able. Fair warning: they may never want to leave.
Is there a restaurant/food available on site?
Our Welcome Wagon General Store has drinks, snacks, and s'mores kits available for purchase. We also sell firewood, and will have grates and griddles available for firepit cooking as needed. For full meals, downtown Lumpkin has a handful of local offerings like Breakout Pizza, Lily's Restaurant, and the drive to Columbus (about ~45 minutes) or Eufala (~25 minutes) opens up more options. Omaha Brewing often has food trucks on site for the weekend, but call in advance to confirm. We recommend stocking up on essentials before you arrive, and enjoy a bit of fireside cooking. Note: We will periodically have a food truck on site that guests can patronize, but call/email to confirm.
Is the stargazing really that good?
It really is. We're located in one of the darkest areas on the East Coast by light pollution maps. No city glow on the horizon, no suburbs, no highway. Just the full sky doing its thing. On a clear night, the Milky Way is visible with the naked eye. Bring a blanket. You'll stay out longer than you planned.
Do you provide stargazing equipment?
We're working on it! Check our website or Instagram (@clay.cosmos) for the latest updates — we have some exciting things in the works. In the meantime, binoculars are a great idea, and a stargazing app like SkySafari helps identify what you're looking at.
What is the best season to visit?
Southwest Georgia summers are warm and humid — think pecan grove air and golden afternoon light. Spring and fall are spectacular for canyon hiking, with cooler temperatures and brilliant colors. Winters are mild compared to most of the country. We're open year-round, and honestly, every season has something worth waking up for here.
